Reese Witherspoon stars as Melanie "Carmichael" an up and coming fashion designer in New York. She seems to have everything going her way. A bright career and the mayor's son as her fiance. What more could a girl ask for? I'll bet "Carmichael" would like to forget her past life in Alabama. She left behind her first love and a life she thought she wanted to forget. When she has to return to Alabama to tie up some "lose ends" she is forced to take another look at what she came from. She has to ask herself if she is sure it is the life she wants to leave behind. It is a romantic comedy and you can't help but like the characters. Candice Bergen and Mary Kay Place are both great talants.
